Chapter Two

Chapter two discusses four core values in the social work practice that is very helpful. The four core values are human behavior and the social environment, social welfare policy and programs, social work practice, and social work research methods. The book states that social work practice is the most important one out of the four. It makes sure the social worker knows why they are there and what they are there to do. It helps them focus on one thing and that is to help the client.  I believe that a social work research method is very important also. It helps open the way to discover more disease’s and more cures so social workers can help more people out there. Research methods help the social work field grow. The chapter also talks about the treatment process and the different methods that it intakes. The six approaches include counseling, education, skill training, resource information and resource linkage assistance, advocacy, environmental modification and community resource development. All of these methods help’s the social worker get as much information they need to help a client. Social workers are people who help and care for others. They value who they are and what they do but they also run into limitations. For example if they have a client that does not want anything to do with the social worker then it will be hard for the social worker to do their job. Another problem would be if the client is under age and the parent does not want to give their consent to let the social worker in to help. Social work is a very hard but rewarding job. This chapter showed me how much they do and how much they put up with. It was a very good eye opener.
